<br />Yuma Project, Valley Division <br /> <br />Ni <br />... <br />Q <br />~ <br /> <br />The Valley Division ofthe Yuma Project and <br />adjacent land of the Yuma Auxiliary Project are <br />anticipated to supply water to about 53,000 <br />acres ofland, About 50,000 acres are within the <br />boundaries ofthe Valley Division (Yuma County <br />Water Users Association), and about 3,000 acres <br />are within Unit B Irrigation and Drainage <br />District (the Yuma Auxiliary Project), The <br />measured return flow from lands of the Gila <br />Project, Yuma Mesa Division; and Yuma Project, <br />Valley Division; and Unit B is commingled to <br />some extent, The decree accounting does not <br />credit unmeasured return flow for the water <br />users in these or any other projects, <br /> <br />Cocopah Indian Reservation <br /> <br />The tribe has a water right to irrigate 1,524 <br />acres ofland or divert 9,707 acre-feet of water, <br />whichever is less, <br /> <br />Other Uses Below Imperial Dam <br /> <br />The many other users with water use contracts <br />are estimated to have a consumptive use in the <br />future of about 15,000 acre-feet, <br /> <br />California <br /> <br />City of Needles <br /> <br />The city of Needles has a present perfected right <br />to a consumptive use of 950 acre-feet per year, <br />In 1991, it was estimated the city diverted <br />3,300 acre-feet, A program has been developed <br />under the Lower Colorado Water Supply Act to <br />provide Needles, and other noncontract users <br />along the Colorado River, an assured water <br />supply, Under this program, water would be <br />pumped from wells into the All- American Canal <br />for exchange with the Imperial Irrigation <br />District and the Coachella Valley Water District, <br />This would allow the city of Needles and others <br />with Lower Colorado Water Supply delivery <br />contract to pump an equal amount of water <br />annually from the Colorado River, Reclamation <br />would accomplish the plan by installing wells <br />adjacent to the AIl-American Canal in the sand <br /> <br />LOWER BASIN DEPLETIONS 33 <br /> <br /> <br />dune area west of Yuma, The city of Needles <br />then would be allowed to continue the existing <br />use of Colorado River water by paying its share <br />of construction, operation, and maintenance <br />costs ofthese wells under contract with <br />Reclamation, <br /> <br />Metropolitan Water District <br /> <br />In 1991, the Metropolitan Water District used <br />approximately 1,252,000 acre-feet, Future use <br />may be reduced as indicated in the table when <br />California is limited to 4.4 maf per year after the <br />QAP becomes more fully developed, <br /> <br />Fort Mohave Indian Reservation <br /> <br />There are 2,119 acres of Fort Mohave Indian <br />Reservation land located in California, Using an <br />estimated consumptive use of 4 acre-feet per <br />acre, this land is entitled to approximately <br />9,000 acre-feet of consumptive use per ;xear, In <br />1991, the Reservation diverted about <br />19,700 acre-feet but will be reduced when <br />California is limited in its use of Colorado River <br />water, The estimated consumptive use for 1991 <br />was 11,000 acre-feet, <br /> <br />Chemehuevi Indian Reservation <br /> <br />The Chemehuevi Indian Reservation, located <br />above Parker Dam, is allocated water by the <br />Supreme Court Decree to irrigate 1,900 acres of <br />land in California, with a maximum annual <br />diversion from the mainstream of the Colorado <br />River of 11,340 acre-feet, The consumptive use <br />required for irrigation of these lands is <br />estimated to be 4 acre-feet per acre, which would <br />result in a mainstream depletion of about <br />7,600 acre-feet annuaIly, The lands that are <br />classified as irrigable are not feasible for <br />farming at this time, The reservation is <br />expected to develop 1,000 acre-feet of <br />consumptive use for M&I and/or irrigation <br />purposes by 2000, <br />
