get oller to the Durango country--thot's Q pretty rugged

country when ,you get in that San ,Juan Basin there; then go

on up to Montrose and Delta and that area, but I didn't think

it makes ony sense at Qll, no rhyme or reoson to it that I

could see end I could nelleI' understand why the legiSlature

did that. I might state that I'm not in fOllor of this one-

mon, one-lIote proposition anyway; I think the supreme court

was absolutely wrong; it was a 6~3 decision; that's what

storted this. Remember we hod one reapportionment after the

1960 census and the old original Third Congressional District

was changed then; they took out the counties in the ~an Luis
Valley and added counties to the,eust here like Yuma, Lincoln,

Kit Carson, Washington and counties like that--Cheyenne--
whiCh would change ~he district considerably, but you asked
me about the old original third Qistrict and that's whot it
was--this area right in here, th, southeast and the So.n ~uis
Valley--Conon City, of course, a~d Westcliffe.

Miss burris: Did it toke in Solido also?

Mr Chenoweth: No, just missed 591ida by 10 miles--we didn't
toke Chaffee County, just mis~ediit; we took Fremont County--
the Fremont County line runs up to Chaffee and th~t 9illes
