Now that was really my first introduction, 1 would

soy, to this whole proposition of bringing w~ter from the

western slope to th~ eastern slop~. From thot time on, it

developed rather rapidly. It seems to me that the beginning

of this interest in the water proposition centered around

LaJunta: th'e Chamber 0 f Commerce here. I rememoer 0 lV,r.

Marc' , IY'illiamson was tho ManegeI' of the Chameer of Commerce

and I think took 0 very active part in the beginning. There

was ,a Mr. Johnson, and others, wh~ were pretty much concerned

over this possibility of bringing additional water into the

ArkansaS Volley. Pueblo soon oecame interested. r remember

Mr. Damian Ducy, who .Ias President of the Pueblo Chamber of

Corrroerce. I ~elieve, in the early 40's and he become very

much interested in this project and after his term of office

with the Chambe,' of Commerce was up, he continued thot interest

and become President of the Conser, voncy District, which was

organized to help promote the proj, ect. The three individuals

who I considered were the foremost' prOll\oters of the fJroject

were Mr, Ducy, that I mentioned, Mr. .Frank Haag, publisher

of the Pueblo Star-Journal and Chieftain. and Mr. Harold

Christy who at that time hod a veriy prominent position with

the Colorado Fuel and iron Corpor~tion handling their water
matters. Ther" were many others, but I mention those three
who were outstcnding and more or less led the fight for the

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
