Court, is concluded, it is unlikely that there will be ony great

development of dry lands through the so-called developer. In
I the interim, starting in 1973, the interest rates jumped on all

the developer --it's destroyed the mol-ket that he hod for lots.

the equipment was uneconomical and it wasn't until, as I say, 1950

that the price of commodities permitted, together with REA power

and better mochining, the development of the pumps. There ore now

rougtlly several thousand pumps used for irrigotion eost of Pueblo

which in on overage year will pump 120.000acre-foet of water,

I whereas the ditches divert roughly 400,000 ,or 500,000 acre-feet of

water, so you con see the pumps ore very major consumers. These

ore waters out of the aquifier of the Arkansas River.

The next point she has is .paints of diversion in relation

and reuse of water. The Fryingpan Project con use and reuse waters

within. the boundaries of the district. Other appropriators do not
hove this right. For the Project, 600,000 acre-feet of water is

diverted out of the Arkansas on on average, and this would not

hove been possible were it. not for the fact that the waters divert<1i~
