Normalized livestock prices were determined by using the last
five data years' prices (1977-81), eliminating the highest and lowest price,
and then averaging the remaining three years.

Ton
Bu
Bu
Ton
Lb

$59.65
2.78
3.55
29.67
.845

Prices paid

Prices paid for inputs generally increase over time in a rather uniform

manner. If this condition exists the normalized price is represented by the

last year of data. There are, however, some inputs such as seed, feed and

fertilizer that have fluctuating prices. In these cases a three year average

nermalized price was used.

Climate

The Yellow Jacket Project area has a semiarid climate. The average

annual precipitation is 16.5 inches with 5.3 inches of effective precipi-

tation falling during the growing season. This is enough annual moisture to

sustain a dry farm economy with about half of the land in production and the

other half in fallow storing moisture for crop production the following year.

Elevation in the project area ranges from 6,200 to 7,400 feet.'
