" <br /> <br />This ridge gradually marges into a. long narrow mesa. known as Tongue Mesa. <br />which forms the lower end of the divide between the Uncompahgre and the <br />C:l.marron. Its average elevation is 9.500 feet. <br /> <br />North of Tongue tlesa is the low point on the CiJDarron-Uncompah- <br />gre divide. This saddle is oalled Carro Summit and is orossed by hath <br />highViB.y and railroad running to Gunnison. The Summit is 20 miles ea.st <br />of Montrose and han an elevation of 7.910 feet. <br /> <br />Running northwest from Cerra S=it is a oomparatively flat top- <br />ped ridge whioh forms the eastern side of the va.l1ey. and the west rim of <br />the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It has an elevation of 8.500 feet in <br />the vioinity of Cerra Summit and slopes northward down to 5.500 feet near <br />the JUI1Dtion of' the Gunnison Rivsr and the North Fork of the Gunnison. <br />The west side of this ridge. fa.oing into the Valley. is joined by badly <br />eroded a.dobe hills whioh break rather abruptly into the valley floor. <br /> <br />The foothill region in the Ouray-Colona seotion ranges in ele- <br />vation from 7.700 feet at Ouray and 6.770 feet at Ridgway to a high point <br />of 10.338 feet at Horsefly Peak. 10 miles northYIest of Ridgway. <br /> <br />In the main valley from Colona to Delta the average elevation <br />is 5.500 feet. At the southern end of the area the elevation is 6.450 <br />feet, While the low point is 4.974 feet in the town of Delta.
