.

.

.

.

0885

s.1l!"'1

2. In lieu of or in addition to the above recommendation, we would
like to have consideration given to the creation of a "borrow-area" seepage
lake similar to Hasty Lake below John Martin Reservoir. This small lake
affords a great deal of fishing and recreation without interfering with
water rights or reservoir draw-downs. If a similar area could be created
during the construction of the Trinidad Reservoir, it would be highly
desirable.

The reservoir as Planned would have considerable value as a resting
srea for migratory waterfowl. Ducks use the Purgatoire River as part of
their flight route between the San Luis Valley, and the Arkai:lsas Valley.
Preliminary estimates would place fall and winter utilization at somewhere
near 5,000 ducks.

This figure would increase if irrigation from the reservoir increased
@&in crops in the. near vicinity.

We appreciate the opportunity to review this report and will gladly
,cooperate in any planning phases which concern our interests.

P.S. Original reports are being returned under separate cover.

T. L. K.

APPENDIX G
l!@iii:i:tt No. ;2
Page_;2 of2
