Diversion of water from the Fryingpan River watershed would be

accomplished through construction of a system of collection tunnels

and conduits to tap the tributar,- streams and convey the water to a

central point on the Fryingpan River from which the water would be

carried under the Continental Divide through the Fryingpan-Arkansas

Tunnel. Aspen Reservoir, with a capacity of 28,000 acre-feet, near

the t~ of Aspen, Colorado, would prevent interference with the

r,ights of Western Slope water users by -the proposed transmountain

diversion.

storage of flood flows would be accomplished by the enlargement

of the existing Sugar Loaf and Twin Lakes Reservoirs to 117,000

and 260,000 acre-feet, respectively, and construction of the Pueblo

Reservoir near Pueblo, Colorado, with a total capacity for conserva-

tion, flood control and sedilnent deposition of 400,000 acre-feet.

The hydroelectric power system wou]n utilize 2,370 feet of

available head between Sugar Loaf Reservoir and Salida, Colorado

and at Pueblo Reservoir. The system comprises about 60 miles of

canal and conduit, seven powerplants with a total installed

capacity of 104,800 kilowatts, sevenswitchyards, nine substations,

and about 400 miles of transmission lines.
