',~~~,;~;, <br /> <br />N <br />N <br />00 <br />W <br /> <br />l.<"~;-;', <br />:"}/i' <br /> <br />,:,~,;:}~ <br />~\t~i <br /> <br />4-18-52 <br /> <br />The proposed Fryingpan-Arkansas project is a multiple-purpose <br /> <br />development planned primarily to furnish supplemental water for <br /> <br />irrigation and municipal and domestic use in the Arkansas Valley <br /> <br />in Colorado. <br /> <br />The project would provide facilities' for the maximwn <br /> <br />beneficial ,use of the waters of the Arkansas River and for the <br /> <br />average impartation of 69,200 acre-feet of water annually from <br /> <br />tributaries of the Roaring Fork River, a branch of the Colorado. <br /> <br />The project is an independent, self-sustaining unit which can <br /> <br />be readily integrated into a comprehensive plan for the development <br /> <br />of the Arkansas Basin fn Colorado. <br /> <br />The importation of water from <br /> <br />the Colorado River Basin in the amount propos ed by the Fryingpan <br /> <br />diversion is in accordance with the provisions of the Colorado <br /> <br />River Compact and Upper Colorado River Basin Compact. <br /> <br />Construction <br /> <br />and operation of the project, in accordance with the plans set <br /> <br />forth in Senate Document No. 106, 82nd Congress, 2nd Session, have <br /> <br />the approval of the State of Colorado. <br /> <br />Development of the project would provide: <br /> <br />(a) About 185,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet of water annually at the canal headgate in the Arkansas <br /> <br />Valley to supplement the present inadequate irrigation supply; <br /> <br />this would be accomplished through importation of water from the <br /> <br />Colorado River Basin, conservation of native flood flows, reregu- <br /> <br />lation of winter flows and reuse of return flows; (b) about 15,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet of municipal and domestic water to improve in quality <br /> <br />and supplement the supplies of Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and the <br /> <br />valley tovms of Manzanola, Rocky Ford, La Junta, Las Animas, Lamar, <br /> <br />Crowley, Wiley and Eads; (c) about 505 million kilowatthours of <br /> <br />1 <br />
