/

.

.

to reservoirs included in the authorized Fryingpan-Arkansas Project are
being reevaluated in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation. In
addition, cooperative studies are being made by the U.S. Public Health
Service to determine the need for and value of storage for municipal and
industrial water supply and water quality control. The findings of the
investigation will be coordinated with other Federal and State agencies prior
to completion and submittal of the report on Arkansas River above John Martin
Dam during the latter part of Fiscal Year 1965. The investigation of the
reach of Arkansas River in Colorado below John Martin Dam is tentatively
scheduled for completion in Fiscal Year 1966, and will be included in a
report covering the Arkansas River and tributaries from John Martin Dam to
Great Bend, Kansas.

The proposed report of the Chief of Engineers recommending a plan for
flood protection in the vicinity of Las Animas is presently with the
State and Federal agencies for review and comment. After receipt of comments,
it will be sent to the Bureau of the Budget for review and comment before
submission to Congress. It is anticipated that the project will be con-
sidered for authorization in an omnibus bill, probably during the next ses-
sion of Congress.

2
