Oahe, on April 30, contained almost 2.5 million acre-feet, al~ that had

been p~anned on at the present atage of construction. Construction of Oahe

will not be completed until 1964.

Power generation at the four operating main stem pOl'Terpla.nts has shovm

steady and substantial growth as new paver units have been comp~eted and water

storage increased. Practical~y ~OO percent of the water re~eased at each of

the four dams has passed through pOl.Ter generators and produced power in the

navigation seasons as we~l as throughout the year. POIier production at these

p~ants in ~960 reached 3.4 bil~ion kilowatt hours, and is expected to reach

the If billion mark in calendar year 1961.

shovm comparable growth as reservoir storage and channel improvements provided

navigable depths. This new river connnerce industry has shovm rapid growth in

recent years and has attracted new industrial development along the river front.
