WE NEED YOUR HELP TOnllY.
WRITE GOVERNOR LAMM.

WHY PRESERVE THE POUDRE?

The Cache La ~oudre is the last free flowing river on the Front
Range eligible for protection under the Wild and Scenic Rivers
Act. The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act is designed to stop darns
and minimize streamside development.

The Poudre is typical of what is good about Colorado. It has
some of the best trout fishing in the state, a variety of
white water for rafting or kayaking, camping and picnicing
sites, hiking and cross country skiing trails, places where
you can wade, see deer and elk, perhaps even spot a bighorn
sheep, see a falcon hunting, or watch an eagle soaring.

It is, put simply, a place of great beauty, inspiration, and
comfort to the fast growing population of the Front Range. It
is one of a kind - a living monument of Colorado's heritage.

THE THREAT

Since the 1930s, massive dmns h.J,ve been planned for the Poudre
Canyon. Most recently, the Grey Mountain, Idylwild, Elkhorn
and New Seaman dams have been seriously considered.

These dams would virtually destroy Poudre Canyon. The dams
would:

-Destroy Over 200 homes plus flood additional private and'
public property.
-Destroy the excellent fishery and flood a state fish hatchery,
-Flood thousands of acres of wildlife habitat including
essential bighorn sheep range.
-Flood several acres of wilderness - a precedent setting
action. __,___
-Disrupt the canyon for 10 years during construction.

eACH[ lA POVDRf

:I1-'"l\.'ooIlUIC
~.~..........

..-.

"".....
Rt........"...,,",

uti'''ll'''lOuNlWI4
jl;~e,."".ll..

\J~\")\)

.........
.

yJ;'." s"....:,
___ R:".., S."...-*

~
