The Cathodic Protection system is <br />effective in preventing corrosion of submerged metalwork. <br /> <br />VI, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF WORKS RETAINED BY THE GOVERNMENT <br /> <br />1. Organization <br /> <br />Custodianship of all works on behalf of the United States is the <br />responsibility of the Proj ect Manager, Yuma Project Office, <br />Reclamation. He is responsible for the O&M of the works retained by <br />the Federal Government. The O&M responsibilities are delegated to the <br />Water Operations Division and Maintenance Division within the <br />Yuma Project Office. The Chief, Water Operations Division, is <br />responsible for keeping the Project Manager and Regional Office <br />informed on maintenance requirements and the operation of the retained <br />works and other Reclamation facilities near Imperial Dam. <br /> <br />The Chief, River Operations Branch (Yuma Project Office), supervises <br />the operation of Reclamation facilities at Imperial Dam, Laguna Dam, <br />and Senator Wash Pumping-Generating Plant. <br /> <br />The works at Imperial Dam are operated 24 hours each day, 7 days per <br />week. Regular working time for Reclamation employees is 8 hours each <br />day, 5 days per week. Reclamation operating personnel stationed at <br />the dam include one Reservoir Operations Supervisor, three gate <br />tenders, and one darn tender for a total of five employees. The <br />Reservoir Operations Supervisor is the immediate supervisor of <br />Reclamation's operating personnel at Imperial and Laguna Dams and <br />Senator Wash Pumping-Generating Plant. Reduction in personnel was <br />started in anticipation of turning over O&M of the retained works to <br />Imperial Irrigation District. <br /> <br />2. Operations, General <br /> <br />Operations of the works retained by Reclamation were normal for the <br />year. Diversions from the All-American Canal to the Reservation <br />Division, Yuma Proj ect, above Siphon Drop Powerplant and diversions <br />from the Yuma Main Canal to the Reservation Division, were made by <br />personnel of the Irrigation Operations Branch until April. In April, <br />O&M of the Bard Unit, Reservation Division, Yuma Project was <br />transferred to the Bard Irrigation District. Yuma Project personnel <br />continued to operate and maintain the Indian Unit. All changes are <br />coordinated with River Operations Branch personnel and the Water <br />Scheduling Branch, Boulder City, Nevada.
