The prospects tor irrigation water at the first of the
year were dim, but the heavy rains in June reversed the situation,
creating heavy flooding and causing a great amount at damage. A
record amount of storage was accumulated in John Martin Reservoir,
however, and an adequate supply ar water is assured for 1966.

Delivery of water was begun on April 1, when 300 ers was re-
leased from John Martin Reservoir Cor Amity use. This amount was
diverted until April 4, when the Reservoir became empty. No more
water was available until May 6 when rains allowed the Amity to divert
for 7 days, Snow melt began reaching the Amity Dam on May 24,
and diversions were started at the rate of 550 cis. Rain began to fall
on June 17 and continued in heavy amounts until June 20. Measure-
ments of. 18 to 20 Inches of rain were common during these 3 days
and the Arkansas River and all tributaries overflowed their banks,
flooding the entire Arkansas Valley. The flood ,"",ler ,"",s 4 feet deep
in the Company office at Holly, The Amity system ,"",s severely dam-
aged by the high '""'ters, as were aU the canal systems In the Valley.
By using both Company-owned and hired equipment, repairs were
accomplished and '""'ter '""'s being diverted again on July 6. Perman-
ent repair and cleanup work has continued throughout the summer
and faU until, at this writing, virtually all damage has been rectified.

Several heallgates were installed along the Amity Canal in the
spring.

The project of tree removal, re-alignment and strengthening of
banks in the Lamar Division has been continued. A tree crew was hired
in October. A 3/4 Yd. dragllne '""'s hired to do l>Ork in some areas.
Relatively good progress has been made but this type of work must
be continued to develop maximum canal capacity.

Page 17

~. ----
