0009?6

_n______ APPENDIX C: FY-2002 - 2003 PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS _____n___

C-23 HMD/9901: Grand Valley Project Diversion Dam Passage and Screen (SR, $3,230,000)

The ]4-foot high Grand Valley Project Diversion Dam is on the Colorado River
approximately 5 miles upstream of the abandoned Price-Stubb Diversion. Construction
offish passage and screen will begin in FY 2002. Total out year cost: -$],600,000.

C-28 HMD/OOO]: Tusher Wash Diversion Dam Screening (SR, $300,000)

The Tusher Wash Diversion Dam canal intake on the Green River can (and has) entrained
native and endangered fishes. Hydroelectric power production has been discontinued due
to a legal dispute. Once this dispute is resolved and a design flow rate determined for the
fish screen, alternatives for screening can be evaluated and pursued. Total out year cost:
$] ,880,000.

C-29 HMD/OOO] : Grand Valley Irrigation Company Canal Screening (BR, $] ,900,000)

The Grand Valley Irrigation Company canal intake also has the potential to entrain native
and endangered fishes. In FY 2002, a screen will be constructed to exclude adult fishes
while allowing unimpeded diversion ofGVle's decreed water. Totaloutyear
cost: ]5,000/year operation & maintenance.

C-6 HMD/93 03 : F]oodp]ain Restoration (BR/FWS, $] ,494,500)

Restoration and enhancement of floodplain functions to assist in recovery of endangered
fishes within the upper Colorado River basin. The objectives of the floodplain restoration
program are: I) determine the amount of nursery habitat needed to recover razorback
sucker and bonytail; 2) restore/enhance nursery habitats to entrain and sustain larvae; and
3) protect the best remaining adult and juvenile floodplain habitats for seasonal use by
endangered fishes. FY 2002 activities include:

_ Determine effectiveness of Bonanza Bridge and Above Brennan sites on the Green
River at entraining drifting larvae. (C-6 larval entrainment study)

_ Stock razorback and bonytaillarvae into Green River floodplain wetland depressions to
determine levels of survival in the presence of nonnative fishes. (C-6 rz and C-6 bt)

_ Survey Bonanza Bridge and Above Brennan sites on the Green River post-runoff to
determine physical response to upstream levee breaching.

_ If easement is acquired, breach wetland levees at Thunder Ranch (formerly known as
Escalante Ranch) to entrain drifting larvae.

_ Develop management plan to allow selenium remediation while benefitting razorback
suckers and waterfowl at the Stewart Lake Waterfowl Management Area, ]] miles
downstream from the razorback spawning bar.

C-?
