u\)J925

__________ APPENDIX C: FY-2002 - 2003 PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS ----------

other tributaries to serve as the bases for the US Fish and Wildlife Service to render
PBO(s), which will encompass both federal and non-federal existing and future water
development projects in each of these tributary basins. Management plan(s) will quantify
water depletions to be covered by the PBO(s), as well as those recovery actions designed
to offset the impacts of depletions and assist in recovery of the endangered fish.
Recovery actions will include provision for and protection of in stream flows, habitat
restoration and maintenance, nonnative fish control, stocking endangered fishes, and
monitoring endangered fish populations and their habitats. Total out year cost: to be
determined.

115. HMG/0204: Effects of Flaming Gorge Dam Releases on LodorelWhirlpool Fish
Community (LFL, $66,500)

This study will determine if changes in Green River flow and thermal regimes since 1996
are associated with changes in distribution and abundance patterns of native and
nonnative fishes in Browns Park and Lodore Canyon. Information gathered will be used
to evaluate whether flow and temperature regimes from Flaming Gorge Dam are
benefitting endangered fishes without increasing the abundance of nonnative fishes.
Total out year cost: $78,600

II. HABITAT RESTORATION

C-4b HMD/9601: Redlands Fish Passage Operation (FWS, $26,400)

The fish passage structure on the Gunnison River at Redlands Diversion Dam was
completed in FY 96. The structure has been used by 52 Colorado pikeminnow;
5 razorback sucker, and more than 20,000 other native fishes since its c.onstruction. The
fish passage is operated from April I - September 15. Fish in the trap are sorted by
species and counted. Native fish are passed upstream and nonnative fish are removed.
Tota] out year cost: $24,000.

C-S HMD/9303 Price-Stubb Fish Passage (BR, $30,000)

The 8-foot Price-Stubb Diversion Dam is -3 miles upstream of the top of the IS-Mile
Reaeh and has been a barrier to upstream fish passage since the early 1900's. It was
originally used to divert water to a hydraulic pumping plant to pump irrigation water to
the Palisade and Mesa County Irrigation Districts. That water is now delivered through
the Government Highline Canal. After 80 years of no use, the hydraulic pumps have
been removed and the intake canal filled. The Recovery Program would like to partially
remove the dam and construct a rock ramp fish passage. However, FERC recently
approved an application for a proposed hydropower plant at the dam. If the applicant
proceeds with plant construction, he will be responsible to construct a fish passage and
screen. If the applicant does not proceed, fish passage will be constructed by the
Recovery Program. Total out year cost: to be determined.

C-6
