Project OpeDation

Reservoir operations

The three project reservoirs would be operated tQ obtain maximum

utilization of the available water supply for all project purposes.

Each would be operated essentially independently of the others. Being

the largest reservoir in the project system and the lowest on the river

network, the Ridgway Reservoir would provide primary regulation of the

project water supply and would provide water for downstream needs. In

order to control sllOWlDelt floods on the Uncompahgre River and reduce

flood damanges that would otherwise occur, capacity at Ridgway Reservoir

would be evacuated for storage of flood flows on a seasonal basis as

the need is indicated by forecasts. Average annual data on reservoir

operations for the lS-year study period, 1947-1961, are shown below.

Adequate flows will be bypassed to the Uncompahgre River which along

with other water supplies available will provide the necessary water

supplies for the other downsttleam users and the Uncompahgre project.

With operation of the Dallas Creek project it will be necessary for the

Uncompahgre Project Water Users Association to avoid making excess diver-

sions not actually needed for beneficial use on their project. It is
