578

.

.

than the average release we must make from 1967 through 1972 to de-
liver 75 million acre-feet in the decade ending September 30, 1972.
We are not alarmed about this delay since estimated increases in firm
loads in the next few years should be adequate to meet compact require-
ment in this critical decade.

Flaming Gorge Lake

The reservoir at Flaming Gorge now contains a somewhat greater
percentage of its total storage than does Lake Powell, so we en-
vision that it will rise seasonally from snowmelt by July and then
recede in about the same pattern which occurred last year. By Feb-
ruary 1968, it will be slightly higher than at present. Releases for
power will average about 110,000 acre-feet per month.

Fontenelle Lake

The lake at Fontenelle Dam is being allowed to rise very slowly,
but this will be cut back after April 1 to prepare for repairs to
the stilling basin. From April 1 to about August 1 we will pass nat-
ural inflow through the river outlets. During the following 4-month
repair period the natural inflow will be passed through the turbine
assembly. After the repairs are completed, we will resume storage
and install the turbine runner and generator.

Navajo Reservoir

With an inflow during April through July of 850,000 acre-feet
as forecast, Navajo Reservoir on the San Juan River in New Mexico
~ will be operated between elevation 5,980 and 5,990 feet to provide
~adequate levels for boat launching at Arboles and at the same time
limit the water level while repairs to the stilling basin are under-
way.

Blue Mesa Reservoir

Blue Mesa Reservoir should fill this spring. We expect that it
will receive about 870,000 acre-feet of inflow. The lake will be
lowered about 50 feet by power production during next fall and winter.

GENERAL INVESTIGATIONS

Feasibility Investigations

Feasibility designs and estimates have been completed for all
project features of the Battlement Mesa Project. A meeting was held
early in December with the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation to discuss
that Bureau's report findings and recommendations. ' The Bureau of Out-
door Recreatmon agreed to reanalyze their recreation benefits on

5
