<br />,. <br /> <br />were appropriated for construction of the two units in <br /> <br />fiscal 1979. <br /> <br />It is essential that construction continue <br /> <br />t'\) <br />C:.Il at the maximum practicable rate. <br />(CI <br />en Funds appropriated for construction of the Las <br />Vegas Wash Unit should be used for reevaluation of studies <br />of Las Vegas Wash, and remaining construction funds should <br />be transferred to expedite the other two authorized units <br />when appropriate. <br />The Council understands that the Bureau of Reclama- <br /> <br />tion included in its budget request for Fiscal Year 1980 <br />funding for construction in the amount of: <br /> <br />Grand Valley Unit <br />Paradox Valley Unit <br /> <br />$ 7.071 million <br />3.175 million <br /> <br />$ 10.246 million <br /> <br />Investigation and planning on the other salinity <br />control units arid other activities identified as the Water <br /> <br />Quality Improvement Program should be accelerated as recom- <br />mended by the Council. Additional funding is required to <br />expedite the planning studies and to initiate research on <br />salt precipitation in reservoirs and to continue the re- <br />search in the areas of evaporation pond cost reduction <br />and desalting pretreatment. The Council believes that <br />$.)00,000 for research is needed in adiiticn to the $2.5 nrillion <br />included in the Fiscal Year 1980 budget for the Water <br />Quality Improvement Program to expedite the studies and <br />carry out the research activities.
