Background <br />.,.., <br />;;.: In November 1997 USDA, USDI and 000 agency leadership began to <br />',!;) c.ollaoolll\e on approaches 10 resolving natural resource and cultural <br />resource issues in Arizona and New Mexico. The Regional Executive <br />Commillee (REC), an inlergovemmental executive group, was formed <br />to guide the development and implementation of the Southwest strat- <br />egy. The Southwest Strategy Cooldination Office provides administrative, cooldinative, and implementation support for the <br />REC Wor1\ groups are subcommillees of the REC and develop seamless, current, and accessible information for resolution <br />on both pressing and long-term issues of concem. They assist in developing policy recommendations and coordinate with <br />other inter-organizations efforts where appropriate. In addition, wor1\ groups develop recommended processes to improve <br />the perfonnance of participating agencies in areas of public service.
