Projections from year 2025 through 2050 are
based on population growth rates varying from 1.6% per year to 2% per year. The
population growth rate is expected to slow as the County draws closer to build out of the
current urban designated areas. These projections result in population projections in the year
2050 ranging from 61&,934 to 662,669. A median population projection of 640,394 is
assumed.

2.2.4 Future Land Use Projections - Douglas County includes 840 square miles of lands
of which 218 square miles are included in Pike National Forest. Of the remaining 622 square
miles, 42.35 square miles (5%) includes unincorporated urban development or urban-zoned
land.

The Douglas County Planning Commission has adopted a Comprehensive Plan to guide
future growth and development decisions. The Plan provides policies on how and where
growth and development should occur and that direction is used to identify the spatial
distribution of where water districts and towns will be expected to provide water through the
year 2050 and beyond.
