By 1980, the population <br />had grown to 25,153 people and by 1990; Douglas County population had grown to 60,391. <br />The year 2000 population of 176,733 reflects the high growth rates experienced in the last <br />decade. <br /> <br />As of year 2000, the population of the two major incorporated municipalities of the Town of <br />Castle Rock and Parker were 20,224 and 23,558 respectively. Over 130,000 people lived in <br />unincorporated county areas. The water needs of the unincorporated areas and the Town of <br />Parker are served by special districts. <br /> <br />In addition to the rapid growth in residential and commercial real estate, Douglas County <br />has seen a 327% increase in jobs since 1990 and a 1,147% increase in jobs since 1980. Over <br />50% of the 56,655 jobs are in the retail and services industries. <br /> <br />2.2.3 Future Population Projections - The Demographic Section, Colorado Division of <br />Local Government projects that the State of Colorado's population will increase from a year <br />2000 estimate of 4,301,261 to a state projection of 6.495,766 by year 2025. The Denver <br />metropolitan area's population is estimated to increase from 2,427,932 to 3,409,478 over <br />that same period. <br /> <br />The Douglas County Planning Department has prepared population projections based on the <br />State Demographer's projections as shown in Table 2.1 through the year 2025. (Reference <br />2.2) The population projections for the three districts in Arapahoe County (ACWW A, <br />ECCV, and Inverness) are added to provide the total service population in Douglas County <br />and the portion of Arapahoe County included in this study. The population in Table 2.1 is adjusted in Table 2.2 to <br />deduct the area served by the Parker Water and Sanitation District and the rural areas and <br />villages, and the south Douglas County urban areas of Perry Park and Larkspur. In the year <br />2000, the total Douglas County area and Arapahoe County participant area has an estimated <br />population of 216,344 versus a study area population of 178,787.
