I'
!

.

.

.

February 14, 1997

March 6, 1997

July 8,1997

August 5, 1997

of RomerlSchoettler process. The period is extended until May
1,1997.

Fifth RomerlSchoettler Process Meeting was held in Towaoc,
Colorado. Representatives from area water conservancy district
boards, associated attorneys, land owners, etc. turnout at the
meeting to express their concerns with the suggestion of using a
portion of their water to satisfy needs I purposes of the Animas-
La Plata Project. The next meeting was scheduled for March 6,
1997 in Durango, Colorado. The Proponents and Citizen
Coalition were asked to specify, on or before the March 6 meeting
in Durango, the date by which they can produce a 'conceptual"
structural and non-structural alternative (respectively).

Sixth RomerlSchoettler Process Meeting was held in Durango,
Colorado. The meeting in Durango was mainly a informational
meeting with presentations on purposes, needs, and cost of the
project, and on how power revenues are assigned to the project
being given by the Bureau of Reclamation. A presentation on
selenium water quality issues in the San Juan River was given by
the Environmental Protection Agency. Because no dates were
given when each group could present an alternative, the
RomerlSchoettler Process meetings was put 'on hold" until both
the Citizens' Coalition Team and the Proponents' team could
submit alternatives to the Animas-La Plata Project. The
Proponent team committed on March 6 to present a structural
alternative. The Citizens' Coalition team was not able to make a
similar commitment, however, was asked to commit by April 7
that they would be willing to present a conceptual non-structural
alternative by June 1, 1997.

The proponents alternative (Animas-La Plata Reconciliation
Plan) was released in a new conference by the two Colorado Ute
Indian Tribes and members of the Colorado and New Mexico
congressional delegations on July 8, 1997.

The Citizens Coalition released the Animas River Citizens
Coalition Conceptual Alternative to the Animas-la Plata Project
with a news conference on August 5, 1997.

13
