More water was
consumed in years with average or above-average flows. and an estimated
1,509 acre-feet could be consumed based on 1.347 acres of irrigation.

On September 5, 1985. Mr. Stewart received a decree in case 83CW94

(Appendix C) for the Zapata Pipeline and began diverting the water rights

on North and Middle Zapata Creeks and their tributaries and water imported

from South Zapata Creek through the pipeline. The pipeline extends from

North Zapata Creek to the ranch and delivers water to a center pivot

sprinkler that irrigates a portion of the area historically irrigated by

the ditches. and to lands for flood irrigation. The natural pressure

developed from the pipeline allows the central pivot to operate. The

pipeline and its diversion point are shown on Figure 3.

Future Uae

Aerial photos of the ranch were taken by Scbarf and Associates in June.

1988. before construction started on the golf course. and again in June.

1989 after golf course construction had been completed. Analysis and

comparison of the two photos reveals that the golf Course is constructed

on-about 161 acres of formerly-irrigated land and that only 82 acres will

be irrigated fairways. greens. and other landscaping.
