<br /> <br />STATEMENT BY' SENATOR ANDERSON OF NEW MEXICO ON <br />STATUS OF COLORADO RIVER STORAGE PROJECT AND <br />PARTICIPATING PROJECTS, WITH. RESPECT TO THE <br />FOURTH ANNUAL REPORT <br /> <br />In connection with the fourth annual report for the fiscal year ended <br />June 30, 1960, sullsequent developments of an official character are <br />pertinent to the record of this vast multiple-purpose development in <br />addition to the historical construction and rejated phases of the most <br />extensive project ever authorized under the reclamation law in 1902. <br />I also request that this material be included as a part of the document. <br /> <br />TOTAL -APPROPRIATIONS- MADE AND PENDING <br /> <br />The total investment in, the Oolorado River storage project as of <br />June 30, 1960, as sliown by the fourth annual report of the Secretary <br />was $136,791,193, <br />Appropriations for fiscal year 1961 totaled $58,700,000, and for <br />fiscal year 1962, the Bureau of the Budget recommendation is for <br />$60,700,000 net for theOolorado River storage project, Thus, <br />subject to the action in the 1st session of the 87th Congress, the total <br />investment in the Oolorado River storage project at the conclusion of <br />the current session of Oongress will be $256,291,930. <br /> <br />HIGHLIGHTS OF FORMlllR INTlllRIOR SlllCRlllTARY SlllATON'S ApPROVAL <br />ON JANUARY 17,1'961, OF FlllD)l)RAL OONSTRUCTION AND OPlllRATION <br />OF BACKBONE TRXNSMISSION SYSTlllM OF OOLORADO R,VER STORAGE <br />PROJECT <br /> <br />1. Approves recommendation of Reclamation Oommissioner Dominy <br />for construction of Itll Federal transmission systems linking,~ Q,(c" <br />Oanyon (Arizona), ]!lamingGorge (Utah), and Ourecanti (Oolorado) <br />hydro-electric plants; " , <br />2. The p()wer marketing area to be linked by the Oolorado system <br />would extend from PlIot Butte Dam in Wyoming southward to Heber <br />and Vernal Utah, southeasterly linking with Green Mountain Dam, <br />thence to the Gunnison and Montrose area of Colorado to link with <br />the Ourecanti project in Oolorado, thence southwesterly toFour <br />Oorners, thence westerly to Glen Oanyon Dam and powerplarjt in <br />Arizona and southerly to the Phoenix substation in Arizona,Lesser <br />voltage lines would libk the system with Sigurq, Utah, aI1d Fredonia <br />on the border between Arizona and Utah, Another 230-kilowatt'line <br />would extend from 'Four Oorners southeasterly to Albuquerque, <br />N,Mex, <br />3. An average rate; of 6 mills per kilowatt-hour for firm energy is <br />proposed, 2,5 mills per kilowatt-hour for nonfirm energy, and $15 per <br />kilowatt-year for peaking capacity. The estimated construction of <br />the Federal system ap'proximates $186 million. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />
