project., so I think then~ a:re very few in this room who have seen any
repol't 0'1 the Central Utah Proj<!ct, unless ii's in a magazine or
something. I think there's a report, on the Bonneville BasIn, but I don't
think it has been circulated.

, ,

"

MR. GROTEGUT~, That report has never been released. We
have tried to obtain a copy so I don't suppose it's in circulation at all.
There have been a corps of engineers working on that project for a. year
and a half. They have been working a Corps of Engineers on that project
and have done a lot of extensive engineering work on it. Just how far
they have progl.essed, I don't know. They are in the southern end of
the project at the present time taking elevations for canal purposes.

MR. ROLLINS: May I ask whether these preliminary surveys
now being made are being made exclusively by the Bureau of Reclamation
or in conjunction with the State of Utah?

MR. GROTEGUT:
by the Reclamation Bureau.

I'm not certain but I believe exclusively

,

CHAIRMAN: Didn't it start with Mr. Kimball making
the first report on it? I beHeve he was killed in an accident recently.
I have a little circular put out by him.

MR. SNOW: Mr. President, in the report that Mr.
Watson prepared, he said that the comsumptive use would be under
300,000 acre feet, which would be within the limits allowed Ix> Utah.

CHAIRMAN: That's questionable because you must
remember that they h,we plans for developing a large amount of their
water on the Price River and on .the Escalante and the Fremont. That
will consume quite a lot of the amount of water allocated to Utah under
their rights, and it would be well if they say, "well, develop anywhere
else -- we will use all the water on that project." They would probably
have enough but they must develop the whole State.

MR. TAYLOR: The Price River Development is only
800,000 acre feet, and it1s a development that was originally put in by
the Pioneers. Then there1s one 1ittl,~ project that doesn't amount to
very much.

CHAIRMAN: Isnlt there a large acreage over on the Ashley
in the Duchess Valley? In the land classification, I notice that they
included some three times the original amount, the amount now irrigated.

MR. SNOW~ That all comes within the 300,000 acre feet
and the eight projects, they aU come within that limitation.

-3.~

,,",', _ :>"" ,,_ ~ c'J:;-
