.1

J

)

/

.

.

DeBeque Project, Colorado-utah

Due to the urgencies of the work on the Collbran Project) very little
progress was made on the appraisal of the potential DeBeque Reservoir.

Cedaredge Division, Gunnison River Project, Colorado

A rough reconnaissance survey for the potential Cedaredge Canal from
North Fork River to Gorsuch Reservoir was completed. Reconnaissance
studies of the multiple-purpose potentialities of the Bardine Junction
site were continued.

Collbran Project, Colorado

/

A definite plan report on the modified plan excluding municipal water
features for the city of Grand Junction was completed by the Regional
Office. The project as now planned will cost less to construct, has a
shorter repayment period, and a higher benefit-cost ratio than the former
plan. Irrigators would pay $1,070,000 over a 50-year period with the
remaining $2,844,000 of the irrigation allocation to be repaid by power
in a 9-year period after the power allocation is paid. Total estimated
cost for the project is $14,225,000.

Preparation of designs and specifications for Vega Dam have been
started by the Chief Engineer's Office.

West Divide Project; Colorado

Very 11 ttle progress was made due to the urgencies of the work on
the Collbran Project. Present plans are to analyse the most economical
scale of development for irrigation only, and a dual purpose irrigation
and domestic water project for about a 300,000 barrel a day shale oil
plant and for a dual purpose project serving a 1,000,000 barrel a day
plant.

Fruitland Mesa Project, Colorado

/

Field work for the detailed land classification was about 65% com-
plete when suspended by winter weather. Foundation drilling operations
at Big Soap Park Dam site were completed with satisfactory findings.
Although rock is of volcanic origin percolation tests during the drilling
showed the matel~al to be relatively water tight.

Parshall Project, Colorado

Investigation of the potential project was suspended because of a
conflict in water right. The city of Denver has conditional decrees for
enlarging Williams Reservoir and for direct diversions on the headwaters.
Those conditional decrees would utilize all of the natural flow of the
stream, and would necessitate replacement costs at other sites in the
plan ~or Parshall Project to take care of the replacement need contem-
plated by city of Denver in its decree for enlarging the Williams Reservoir.

126'7

3
