C:>

-- ,

~
-.J
e"n
N

projeot evaluation statements presented in this volume set forth
the investigations needed for those projeots whioh the individual
planning asencies have identified as warranting earl.Y oonsideration
f<:1r development. They also present information as to the effects
of specifio elements on water pollution oontrol, fish and wild-
life, reoreation, mosquito oontrol and mineral resouroes. Details
of prosrams of asrioultural researoh, oredit and eduoation whioh
should be undertaken in order to faoilitate and assure the most
sucoessful operation of the projects will have to be worked out
when project plana become more definite.

For the most part, elements of the plan were formulated to
provide solutions to specifio problems in local areas with inoi-
dental oonsideration of resion-wide or national Soals or problems.
A single project generally has limited effeot on the eoonom,y of
the region or the Nation or on broad problems suoh as total need
for food and fiber, and the maintenance of fish and wildlife
resources. However, in J.ong-ranee plann1ng on a basin:"wide basis,
the CUDlUl.a ti ve effeots of numerous projeots on such faotors may
beoome signifioant. The impJ.ications of the potential overall
development proposed in the AWR plan should be ex~ned as deci-
sions are made to prooeed with individuaJ. eJ.ements of the" plan.

Agency representatives of the Departments of the Arrq, Asri-
oulture, and Interior assembled this seotion. The data oontained
herein are lareel.Y a re-editing and oondensation of material pre-
pared by field representatl ves of the FederaJ. agenciee ,and State
representatives during formulation of the AWR plan., Representatives.
of the Federal agencies and States whioh oompose the AWRBIAC I
participated in the deveJ.opment of the original evaluation state-
ments.Leadership for that activit;r was furnished by the State
" representatives.

iv
