Detailed attJ.dies on the Narrows Unit were
initiated and the required report was submitted in
July 1951.

the dam site were oppofJed to the Unit while groups
or interests below the dam site were in favor of
the Unit. At the request of
the Colorado Water Conservation Board a detailed
comparative ana4rsis was made between the NarrQws
and the Fort Morian si'~es. This analysis clearly
indicated the Na.n-ows site ,"'Ss the more :feasible
location. Local opposition to a dam at the Na.rroW&
site intensifled and crystallized, due principe.l1.y
to reser-roil' rig!ltc-o:l'-w.y requirements. On
June 11, 1951 '!;he Board a.uthorized its director,
Mr. Clifford B. Stone, to hold a series of public
hearings concerning the Narrows Unit.

As a result of the lack of official support
by the State of ColoradO, all construction activi-
ties on the Narrows Dam and Reservoir were te~i-
nated. The houses and bl~ildings in Fort Morgan
were suld. Only limited planning activities have
been conducted on the Narrows plaU since 1951 by
the Burell'l of Reclamation. A semidetailed 18.nd
classification survey has been made of lands that
could be served from exi6ting cans~s.
