Although the Unit has been authorized a: a part of the comprehensive Missouri River ~as~n Project the plan of development is not f~rm. Consequ~ntlY, engineering data and posSible uses of the water supply that could oe conserved by the Narrows Reservoir must be considered tenta- tive and suoject to revision. LOCATION AND PURPOSES The Narrows Unit comprises a potential dam and reservoir on the South Platte River about 7 miles upstream from Fort Horgan. It could provide flood control, storage, and regula- tion of irrigation water, sediment detentia~, ~ish and wildlife benefits, and opportunities for recre- ation. Bijou Creek floods would be controlled by diversion into the reservoir. AUTHORIZATION The Narrows Unit is a part of the Missouri River Basin Project. The initial stages of that project (not including Narrows Unit) were author- ized for construction on December 22, 1944 by the Flood Control Act of 1944. The comprehensive plan of the project, including the Narrows Unit, "~s approved on July 24, 1946 by the Flood Control Act of 1946. HISTORY The need for a reservoir near the present Narrows site for irrigation use has been recog- nized for many years. State records disclose that Filing.No. 6820 was made in 1910 by'private interests for construction of a dam at a Narrows Reservoir site about 6 miles upstream from Fort -1-
