<br />00.1815 <br /> <br />Cimarron Dredging Environmental Assessment <br /> <br />Response: "Construction" was changed to "Dredging" and "or affected" was added. "Adversely <br />affected" was not added because Reclamation would be required to consult with the Service for <br />any affect under the Endangered Species Act. Reclamation feels that it is not appropriate to <br />make the statement "the Service wilL....... ,. If necessary, Reclamation will consult with the <br />Service as outlined in Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act. If formal consultation is <br />necessary. the project would likely be delayed until the following year or until the consultmion <br />was completed. <br /> <br />Comment 10: Page 18. Summary of Environmental Commitments - 3'. bullet should probably be <br />expanded to include all fisheries with perhaps special emphasis on Brown Trout spawning. <br /> <br />Response: Sentence was restructured to include all fisheries. <br /> <br />Bureau of Land Management rBLM) <br /> <br />Comment I: After reviewing the document we feel that most of our concerns are covered but in a <br />very general manner. We would like to re-emphasis our earlier request that BR make a sincere <br />effort [0 provide timely and detailed notification to concerned agencies. interested parties. and <br />publics, prior to and during the proposed dredging activity. This and other concerns are detailed <br />in our previous correspondence to you regarding this project. which we would like [0 request be <br />made part of our comments on the draft EA. <br /> <br />Response: BLM's previous correspondence is attached in the Appendix. As part of the NEP A <br />process. concerned agencies. interested parties. and publics will be notified prior to and during <br />the dredging activity. Concerned parties have recei ved the draft EA, and will recei ve a copy of <br />the Final EA and "Finding of No Significant Impact". Press release. mailing lists and facsimile <br />lists will be used to inform and update agencies and the public about the dredging activity. This <br />was added to the list of environmental commitments. <br /> <br />Comment 2. Page 3 - Replace "Gunnison Gorge Special Recreation Area" with "Gunnison <br />Gorge National Conservation Area and Wildemess." Add "the BLM manages the Gunnison <br />Gorge National Conservation Area (NCA) and Wilderness located immediately downstream of <br />the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The NCA includes an additional 24 miles of <br />the Gunnison River from the Park's western boundary [0 the Town of Austin". <br /> <br />Response: Changed. <br /> <br />Comment 3: Page 4.Recreation Resources - Add "float fishing. walk-wade fishing" between <br />"rafting" and "hiking" <br /> <br />Response: Added to the sentence. <br /> <br />23 <br />
