It is assumed there will be a ten year monitoring period. Some data

such as land use, ground water level, and soil salinity, are common

information collected for other discipline's uses. Analysis of data will

identify and quantify changes, determine the significance of the change, and

determine the cause of the changes.' Monitoring of wetlands will be

correlated with monitoring of irrigation and economics. The changes in a

majority of cases will be cumulative over a number of years, so a long-term

program is needed. The plans for monitoring in each salinity unit are quite

different and will be presented separately.

Data Collection

In the Grand Valley Unit habitat types will be mapped on a sample of

agriculture units prior to installation of practices associated with salinity

control to determine present habitat quality. Amounts of each habitat type

will be computed for each unit sampled and in the aggregate. The BR has

begun a three year wildlife habitat/population monitoring effort in Grand

Valley and population data from their study may be used to help interpret

findings from the SCS study.

Agricultural units will be remapped following installation of planned

practices and habitat type quantities will be obtained. Comparison will then

37
