<br />the region will account for 23 percent of the total state output in

<br />Manufacturing output is forecast to increase from $1,799 mill ion to
<br />$5,320 mill ion by the turn of the century and is expected to nearly
<br />double between the turn of the century and the end of the forecast
<br />period. This region could account for approximately 39 percent of
<br />the state's total output in manufacturing by 2020. Transportation
<br />equipment manufacturing will probably account for a significant portion
<br />of the total manufacturing output in the region. The number of
<br />employees in manufacturing may increase from 59,000 persons in
<br />1965 to 81,000 by the end of the forecast period.
