<br />period to about eight percent. At the same time, the region should
<br />have ten percent of the total state manufacturing output by the end
<br />of the forecast period. Manufacturing is expected to increase from
<br />$373 mi 1 lion to over $2,525 million, an increase of almost sevenfold,
<br />by the end of the forecast period.

<br />Water requirements in Region 2 are expected to increase from 76,700
<br />acre-feet in 1980 to 232,500 acre-feet by 2020. Manufacturing wili
<br />exert the largest water requirement in this region in the future
<br />(Table 4-7). In 1965, the greatest withdrawal of water was for gener-
<br />ation of electric power, with 168,000 acre-feet used for that purpose.
<br />The same assumptions which were out] ined in Region 1 account for the
<br />large decrease in water for electric power generation even though the
<br />production of electricity will increase significantly during the
<br />forecast period. The water requirement for electrical power generation
<br />ma~ be about 2,400 acre-feet by 1980 and then increase to around
<br />22,600 acre-feet by 2020. In the manufacturing sector, a large
<br />part of the water requirement will be for chemical and all ied products.
<br />However, it should be noted that the other manufacturing category
<br />also will require a significant quantity of water.
