Softened water is delivered at two llOil1ts
from the upper feeder to Pomona Valley Municipal Water District.
Pasadena has four direct connections, and San Marino will be
served through a mile-long lateral, although a connection into the
system serving the city has not been made by the private water
company.
The District acquired from the City of Pasadena by an agreement
made in 1932 and consummated in 1941, Morris Dam and reservoir
in Pine Canyon on the San Gabl'iel River. This reservoir with a
capacity of approximately 35,000 acre-feet provides emergency
storage above the upper feeder to which it is connected through
Monrovia tunnel No.2 and a steel pipe line under the river bed
immediately below Morris Dam.
There are three main branches extending from the upper feeder
southerly and westerly into the metropolitan area, with laterals
as required to carry water to the member agencies. The Orange
County branch takes off from the upper feeder at the softening
plant turnout ~trueture and e,;te",h ~outherly 40.3 miles to connect
in Corona del Mar with the main supply line of the Laguna Beach
County Water District, a constituent of Coastal Municipal Water
District. There are five additional delivery points for the Coasllll
District, three each for Fullerton and Santa Ana, two for Anaheim,
and one for the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station at EI Toro. Orange
County and Corona del Mar resen'oirs, with capacities of 200 and
15 acre-feet respectively, provide storage and flow regulation.
The Palos Verdes branch runs southerly and westerly from
Eagle Rock tower 31 miles to the Palos Verdes reservoir near the
Los Angeles-Long Beach harbor area. Twelve connections, includ-
ing a short lateral to Ascot reservoir, have thus far been made from
this line to the Los Angeles city water system. A direct connection
is also provided for Torrance in its southeastern portion and three
direct connections for constituents of West Basin Municipal Water
District. Laterals were built by the District to provide delivery to
the cities of Compton, Long Beach and Torrance, and to constit-
uents of West Basin MunicilJat Water District. and the Victoria
Street lateral was built. to provide additional connections for Long
Beach and Compton.
