Apparently the dampers installed originally on the line
are not adequate to eliminate all vibrations.
The point of termination of the District 230-kv transmission line
at Hoover switchyard was changed back to its original position on
February 17 by and at the expense of the United States. The line
was first moved to permit the Basic Magnesium Project to terminate
its lines at convenient points. Since the State of Nevada has con-
tracted to use Hoover generator unit N7 and the U. S. Bureau of
Reclamation has connected a transmission line from Davis power
plant to the south line of the Basic Magnesium Project, it has be-
come desirable to connect the Basic lines to the adjacent unit N7.
Provisions were made in the switchyard to interconnect the District
system with unit N7 and the Davis system.
There were 37 cases of telephone trouble on the District's 436
miles of pole line. Broken wires, broken insulators, and short cir-
cuits from baling wire or similar material thrown acrOSS the lines
caused most of the interruptions. The telephone and transmission
lines were patrolled regularly to check the condition of lines and to
repair finy damage.
The telephone line was relocated at four points to conform with
relocations of highways. One point was at the south edge of the
City of Beaumont on the Lamb Canyon Road in Riverside County.
Another was near Lakeview where the county extended Pico Road.
The third was at Whitewater where the State is building a divided
highway to replace the main highway between Whitewater an,]
Garnet. The fourth point was in Boulder City, Nevada, where a
new residential section has been developed to provide for increasc
in population.

Powel' resources nlld. 1{SC

Under existing contracts there is available to the District a total
generating capacity of 297,500 kilowatts, sufficient to provide at
least 1,675 million kilowatthours annually for pumping 800,000
acre-feet through the aqueduct. At present a total of only 165,000
kw of capacity, consisting of units N5 and N6 at Hoover power
plant, is under operation for the benefit of the District. This ca-
pacity is also being used jointly with the Southern California Edi-
son Company. Unit N7 at Hoover power plant was used by the
Edison Company until May 31, 1951, when it was transferred to
