The weather station has been installed at the ditch rider's

residence near the end of the Stage One area. Consumptive use will be

verified by the use of neutron probes and gravimetric :3amples on reference

fields. Weather information from the SEA-AR weather station and the IMS

weather station will also be used.

Several drains have been selected within the Reed Wash area where

Parshall flumes could be installed. Measuring devices combined with a weekly

sampling program for TDS would allow computation of sal.t load at these sites.

Although the load at those points could not be related to a specific acreage,

it would be an excellent indicator of trends in flow and concentration

changes. The drainage data could give rough approximations of when the change

1n salt load would occur at the mouth of Reed Wash. A comparison of the ratio

of chloride to sulfate before and after construction down the drain could

provide additional evidence of a reduction in canal seepage. Four of these

stations have been installed to gather baseline data.

The wildlife monitoring program has obtained color near infrared aerial

photographs of the Stage One area about the first week of July 1980. Either

through cooperation with the E&R Center Remote Sensing ,group, or use as a base

map for ground observations, these photos would be useful for obtaining the

change in crops and mapping of preproject seeps and phr..atophyte areas. A

post construction photograph mission would then be flown to observe the

effects of the Water Systems Improvement (as well as wildlife habitat).

It is also proposed to establish several "photograph record" stations

along the future construction path. These stations woul.d consist of a pin,

hub, Dr natural feature at selected sites that would be beneficial for use

27
