Ten of

them are north of Government Highline canal, to investigate inflow from the

nonirrigated area.

These observation holes vary in depth from a few feet to a maximum 25

feet. They were bottomed in Mancos Shale except where the shale was deeper

than the 25-foot limit of the drilling equipment. The well casing was 1

1/2inch diameter PVC pipe perforated with 1/16th inch holes for the entire

length below the water table. The bore hole was then backfilled with pea

gravel to the top of the water table and then with drill cuttings to the

surface. A 2 1/2 inch steel standpipe and cap were concreted in place over

the casing. Figure 1 is a profile cross-section of AP wells along 14 Road.

Water quality sampling has been done and water levels measured on the AP

wells since the summer of 1974. The frequency of sampling is shown in Table

1. The water samples were analyzed for TDS, EC, pH, and eight major ions.

Water temperatures were taken during sampling. As the lab analyses were

received they were entered on a computer file. Summary printouts consist of

descriptive entries for each well, data points by date, minimum, maximum,

mean and standard deviation for the data points. Figure 2 is an example of a

printout.

In 1975, holes were drilled along all of the major canals in the valley

to obtain foundation data for design purposes. Eight of these holes are

along the Government Highline Canal within the Stage One area. In general,

the holes were drilled 10 feet below the bottom of the canal prism in over

burden and 5 feet below the bottom of the canal prism in bedrock. 1 1/2 inch

PVC pipe was installed in these holes and .1eft flush with the ground surface.

Periodic water table measurements have been made although lleveral of the

4
