<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Generally, since the willow flycatcher surveys were initiated in 1996, more fly catchers have <br />been observed, more nests have been discovered, and more suitable habitat acres have been identified. <br />Additionally, the survey teams have captured and leg-banded fledgling flycatchers along the Lower <br />Colorado River. Many of the banded birds have been observed and re-captured in subsequent years. <br />Nest parasitism by brown-headed cowbirds is still an issue in certain areas along the Lower Colorado <br />River. Consequently, Reclamation is still conducting focused trapping of cowbirds in those areas. <br /> <br />.\ <br /> <br />Status of the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Work Group <br /> <br />The Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) is scheduled to meet <br />on July 17-18,2002, in Phoenix, Arizona. Of interest, the AMWG is slated to discuss the potential <br />for experimental flow releases from Glen Canyon Dam given the current hydrological and <br />climatological conditions within the Colorado River Basin. More infonnation will be provided <br />regarding potential non-native fish controls in the Grand Canyon Reach of the mainstream. The UJS. <br />Geological Survey will provide an overview of a proposed reorganization plan for the Grand Canyon <br />Monitoring and Research Center. Both, Mr. Harris and I will be attending the meeting. <br /> <br />WATER QUALITY <br /> <br />Colorado River Basin Salinitv Control Forum <br /> <br />As you will recall, the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum (Forum) held its Spring <br />meeting on June 5, 2002, in Silverthorne, Colorado. The Forum authorized release ofthe Draft 2002 <br />Review, Water Quality Standards for Salinity, Colorado River System (2002 Review) for public <br />review and comment along with a proposed revision to the Forum's policy on NPDES discharges. <br /> <br />The 2002 Review is scheduled to be released for public comment during the week of July IS, <br />2002. Four public meetings within the Upper and Lower Colorado River Basins are scheduled to <br />receive written and oral comments. The Upper Basin meetings will be held on August 13, 2002, in <br />Rock Springs, Wyoming; August 14,2002, in Grand Junction, Colorado; August IS, 2002 in Price, <br />Utah. The Lower Basin meeting will be held on September S, 2002, in Phoenix, Arizona.
