0025S1

.

.

Governor Brown told the conferences that the timetable
on the State Water Project calls for delivering water to the
southern terminous -- Perris Reservoir in Riverside County -- by
1972. The first reach of the South Bay Aqueduct will permit
delivery of water to Livermore Valley next year. Relocation of
Highway 40A and the Western Pacific Railroad around Oroville
Reservoir, which has been underway during the past four years,
will be completed late in 1962. On August 16, a contract was
signed for construction of the first of two tunnels to divert the
river during construction and later serve as tailrace for the power
plant. The tunnel, scheduled for completion early in 1963, will
be 4,333 feet long and 35 feet in diameter, and will cost
$6.1 million. Completion of the 735-foot-high dam is scheduled
for 1968. Rights of way are being acquired for the San Joaquin
Valley-Southern California Aqueduct, and an agreement between
the State and Federal Government for joint construction of San Luis
Reservoir is under negotiation. Delivery of water in Kern County
is scheduled for 1968.

DELTA WATER FACILITIES
A preliminary edition of Department of Water Resources
Bulletin No. 76, "Delta Water Facilities", has been released for
study and comment by interested parties.
