00'2555

.

.

t:

.

Central Valley Project. It is proposed to provide a supplemental
water supply to about 24,000 acres in Yolo County with water
pumped from the nearby Sacramento River. The area lies just
south of the lower end of the Sacramento Valley Canals service
area and could be served either by an enlargement and extension

of that system when and if built or by a single pumping system
for the lower portion of the long canal service area and the
Yolo-Zamora area. Proponents of extension of the long canal

requested that the hearing be held. Findings of the Bureau
that the pumping system recommended in the report would be less
costly and otherwise more desirable than either of the suggested
alternatives are now under review by the Department of Water
Resources.

* * *

After a promising November, it now appears likely
that California is in for a third year of less than average
water supply. Over the State, precipitation has been about
75% of normal to date, snowpack 55% of normal, water in storage
85% of average, and runoff 65% of average. A 70% of average
annual water supply is forecast for the 1960-61 water year.

I
j
j
1

.-' ~
,

.~

/'

February 17, 1961

-3-

,
~;, ':,_~ji;&~;

f '.' _,~
~'ii
,,,k'" --"
