The <br />fish hatchery will substitute for salmon and steelhead spawning <br />areas cut off by the project. <br />The Delta Water Project comprises several control <br />structures, locks and small boat transfer facilities, fishways, <br />about 570 miles of master levees, irrigation dr'ainage and water <br />supply facilities, and public recreation areas and developments. <br />It is designed to protect the Delta from flooding and seepage, <br />benefit navigation, salvage water otherwise needed to repel <br />ocean water, and assure the transfer of good quality water <br />across the Delta for export to areas of need. <br />The North Bay Aqueduct, some 60 miles long, is designed <br />to deliver a maximum of 205,000 acre-feet per year to areas in <br />Solano, Napa, Sonoma and Marin Counties. Diversion will be by <br />pumping from Lindsay Slough in the Delta. <br />The South Bay Aqueduct project comprises 39 miles of <br /> <br />canal, tunnels and pipe lines, three reservoirs with a combined <br />capacity of 85,000 acre-feet, and a 300 second-foot capacity <br />pumping plant. The project will deliver about 210,000 acre-feet <br /> <br />annually into Alameda, Contra Costs and Santa Clara Counties. <br /> <br />The San Joaquin Valley-Southern California Aqueduct <br /> <br /> <br />will extend along the west side of San Joaquin Valley to San Luis <br /> <br /> <br />Heservoir, thence south to Avenal Gap in Kings County where it <br /> <br /> <br />will branch to serve San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, <br /> <br />southern San Joaquin Valley, and areas south of Tehachapi <br />M(Jtmtains. San Luis dam and reservoir is a proposed joint <br />federal-state project.
