They have. by construction contract, repaired <br />the Siphon transiLion Oil the Big Sandy Creek Siphon, rehabilitated the <br />diversion dam sluiceway and headworks and constructed a measuring flume <br />in the Kicking Bird Canal. <br /> <br />COMPLIANCE WITH EXECUTIVE ORDERS <br /> <br />Executive Order 11988 (replaced by Executive Order 11296) - Flood Plain <br />Management. sets pol icy to avoi d adverse impacts associ ated \1ith work in <br />floodrlains. The proposed prOject will lessen the risk of losses due to <br />floods, Flood hazards v/ill be evaluated and the project will be designed <br />to v/ithstand flood hazards. Additional expenditures by the Federal <br />government after construction will not be requil-ed for additional flood <br />protecti on. Therefol'e, the proposed project is in comp 1 i ance with <br />Executive Order 11988. <br /> <br />Executive Order 1199D - Protection of Wetlands. stresses the need to <br />avoid adverse impacts of construction activities in wetlands. The only <br />identified wetlands which vlill be encountered are at Bid Sandy Creek and <br />at Buffalo Creek. In these instances. the construction specifications <br />will direct that specific measures be implemented to minimize adverse <br />construction impacts in these areas. as agreed with the Fish and Wildlife <br />Service. These measures assure compliance with Executive Order 11990. <br /> <br />*Core \-Iall is constructed by trenching an 8-inch I-ride by 8-foot deep <br />trench in the canal dike and filling the trench with concrete. <br />
