Most of the work will be on structures in the Amity.
Comanche and Kicking Bird Canals. Work will also be done on two of the
outlet structures and spillways for the Great Plains Reservoirs, An
office/maintenance building will be provided to house equipment and re-
pair shops. Also included is the purchase of maintenance equipment.

AMITY CANAL

A bend in the Amity Canal will be straightened between mile 79,5 and
79,8. The new canal section will have the same cross section as the
existing section. The proposed alignment and the land surrounding the
existing alignment are owned by one farmer. An even right-of-way swap
is proposed,

CANAL STRUCTURES

Description of Improvements

Most existing structures are in poor condition, particularly gates and
gate operating equipment, The structures to be rehabilitated are list-
ed individually in Appendix A, Description of Work and Cost Estimate.
Rehabilitation will consist primarily of replacing gates and hoists,
patching deteriorated concrete and replacing erosion protection, Seve-
ral structures will be faced with new concrete, The structures are
widely scattered and forming and placing concrete in relatively small
pours results in above average unit costs. Extensive use of epoxy
grout is also anticipated.

Twelve structures are beyond rehabilitation and will be replaced, They
are the River Return Wasteway, Parrish Drop Structures (2), three Check
Structures, Wild Horse Creek Wasteway. Hutchinson Drop Structure, the
Cheyenne Wasteway. the inlet and outlet transitions on Comanche Pipe
drop structure and the Big Sandy Creek Diversion Structure. The pre-
liminary design layout for the Big Sandy Creek Diversion structure is
shown on Plate 3,

Two new structures will be added to the system, A spillway and check
structure will be constructed at the Wiley Drain to handle flood in-
flows and a drop structure will be added at the downstream end of the
Amity Canal to control channel degredation, The new structure will be
constructed within the existing right-of-way.

4-1
