The proposed improvements will increase water yield and
efficiency, increase structural life, maximize use of available water
under AMIC water rights for optimum crop production and provide water
equitably to all users. improve overall system operation, repair and
replace badly deteriorated structures, restore design capacities, and
reduce seepage losses.

The system improvements consist primarily of structure rehabilitation.
Twelve structures will be replaced. two new structures will be added to
the system and 28 structures will be rehabilitated. The reconstruction
of the Big Sandy Creek Diversion Structure will increase water supply,
The improvements and rehabilitation of the structures will reduce water
losses and increase system reliability,

New equipment and a new office/maintenance building will improve main-
tenance efficiency and therefore system reliability,

PROJECT COSTS

Construction and related project costs are shown on Table 1,

LAND

Land Classification

Land within the Amity service area has a history of productivity under
irrigation, Approximately 48,700 acres are classed as irrigable and
about 35,000 acres were irrigated in 1978, About 25.300 acres of Class
6 lands are located in the service area,

Land Use

About seventy percent of the irrigable lands within the service area
have been irrigated in the past. In 1978, seventy-two percent were ir-
ri9ated. The following table shows the cropping patterns for 1967 and
1978. Cropping patterns are not expected to vary significantly during
the loan period.
