The effects of the operation of the Trinidad Reservoir on water supplies downstream from the project area were evaluated to determine project feasibility within the administration of the Arkansas River Compact. It was esti- mated that the average annual usable water supply at John Martin Reservoir on the Arkansas River would be reduced by about 390 acre-feet. Project works The major structures at the site would be an earth dam on Purga- toire River, river mile 161, a spillway in the left abutment., and outlet works in a turme1 under the left abutment. Project construction would require relocation of Colorado Highway 12 and the Colorado and Wyoming Railway. Relocation of the Trinidad city water supply lines from the Madrid Reservoir, the 5,OOO,000-gallon Jansen Reservoir, the water supply line to Cokeda1e, and several minor power and telephone lines would also be necessary. 3'
