'\ <br />~f"~ <br />, 1064 <br /> <br />TRINIDAD RESERVOIR PROJECT (1) <br /> <br />General description and purposes <br />The proposed Trinidad Reservoir project would consist of the con- <br /> <br />struction of a dam at the Trinidad site, about four miles above the city <br />of Trinidad in the upper Purgatoire River watershed, for the purposes <br /> <br />of flood control, conservation of the water supply, and sediment control. <br /> <br />The project has the approval and support of local interests, and would <br /> <br />fit into the comprehensive plan for the development of the water re- <br /> <br />sources of the Arkansas River Basin in Colorado. <br /> <br />Development of the project would provide, during the 75-year eco- <br /> <br />nomic life of the improvement, flood protection for the city of Trinidad <br /> <br />and the agricultural area along the Purgatoire River below 1'rinidad, a <br /> <br />regulated and supplemental water supply for an irrigated area of <br />19,500 acres below Trinidad, and possible future domestic and industrial <br /> <br />uses. The project would also improve recreation and fish and wildlife <br /> <br />resources in the area. The project facilities would be constructed by <br /> <br />the Corps of Engineers, and upon completion the improvement would be <br /> <br />operated by the Bureau of Reclamation for irrigation and other purposes <br /> <br />in accordance with rules for flood control prescribed by the Secretary of <br /> <br />the Army. <br /> <br />The plan of operation would require the formation of a water con- <br /> <br />servancy district under the Colorado Water Conservation District Act of <br /> <br />(1) <br /> <br />Proviso clause projects under Section 205 of Flood Control <br />Act of 1950 pertall1ing to Arkansas~ite-Red Basins. These <br />projects have not been subjected to reanalysis and evaluation <br />and approval by the AWRBIAC. <br /> <br />J)~ .!. <br />
