<br />on:n2G <br /> <br />PART C-6 <br /> <br />WATER AND POWER RESOURCES SERVICE <br />ACTIVITIES IN LOWER COLORADO REGION, BOULDER CITY, NEVADA <br />JANUARY 1, 1980 TO JUNE 30, 1980 <br /> <br />INVESTIGATIONS IN PROGRESS--APPRAISAL AND SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS <br /> <br />Whi le Wash Pum ed-Stora e Pro'ect California. The project is <br />oca e a out ml es ups ream rom ar er Dam on Lake Hqvasu in <br />California. Geological and environmental studies and the aerial <br />topographic mapping have been completed. This appraisal study will be <br />completed in fiscal year 1981. Alternatives to be studied are any <br />combination of one to four dams. and reservoirs with reversible <br />pumped-storage hydroelectric units. Appraisal designs and cost <br />estimates are scheduled for completion in late 1980 with an appraisal <br />report to be completed in 198i. <br /> <br />Reclamation and Ener Resources LMNRA Wilderness Desi nation. Two <br />poten 1a pumpe -storage sltes are presen y elng s u led. The <br />Spring Canyon site is located in the upper reaches of Lake Mead near <br />the entrance to Gregg Basin. The Rifle Range site is located near <br />Boulder City and could operate out of either Lake Mead or Lake Mohave. <br />The Spring Canyon site appears very promising and could develop up to <br />4,000 MW. Apprai~al designs and cost estimates for Spring Canyon are <br />neari ng comp 1 et i 0n and a report is schedu 1 ed to be comp 1 eted in the <br />early fall. <br /> <br />Lower Colorado River Water Conservation and Efficient Use, Arizona, <br />Nevada, Utah, Ca 11 form a. Appral sa I Stud1 es of the conservat 1 on of <br />excess flows on the G1la River will be initiated in July 1980 with a <br />report schedul ed in 1981. Other study elements are conservation of <br />excess flows of the Colorado River, urban water conservation, <br />i rri gati on water conservation, vegetation management, water banki ng, <br />and legal and institutional constraints to water use efficiency. The <br />study is scheduled to be completed in September 1985. Each study <br />element will be reported separately. <br /> <br /> <br />Geotherma 1. A Speci a 1 Report has been prepared on the technology <br />deve 1 opment conducted at the East Mesa Test Si te, Imperi a 1 Valley,. <br />California. This report is available for public release. Under <br />contract with Water and Power Resources Service, Geoscientific Systems <br />and Consulting is performing a preliminary resource evaluation of the <br />geothermal resources identified in the Inland Basins of California and <br />Nevada. The resul ts of thi s pre 1 imi nary eva 1 uat i on will be evaluated <br />along with water needs to determine if further studies are warranted. <br />The results of this evaluation will be presented in a Special Report <br />scheduled to be published in late 1980. <br /> <br />C-59 <br /> <br />'j, - .' ,,.., <br /> <br />i",;J <br />
