TERMINAL FACILITY

Alternative 0 (Southern Route) consists of one major storage
reservoir into which the transfer water is deposited via the transport
system. Both Plan I and Plan II of Alternative 0 use the same site
while Plan I is a minimal facility and Plan II is the facility sized
for the maximum estimated water availability. Table 1 [Seasonal
Irrigation Oemands (Southern)] was used to determine the size of the
terminal storage reservoir. This storage reservoir is the pick up site
for the distribution system which delivers the transfer waters to
users. This terminal facility does not include the distribution system
for water delivery to users.

The High Plains Study Council recommended by Resolution Number 8,
that an evaluation of a terminal storage facility near Littlefield,
Texas, called Bull Lake, be accomplished. The Bull Lake site has a
maximum capacity of 360,000 acre-feet of water. The estimated terminal
storage requirement exceeds one million acre-feet thereby eliminating
the Bull Lake site. A suitable site was found in Blanco Canyon with a
proposed dam location approximately five miles downstream of U.S.
Highway 82 on the White River. A general location is shown on Figures
2 and 3. This general site has an estimated capacity of 5,000,000
acre-feet, while detailed field studies have not been conducted for
this immediate site, studies conducted by the Texas Water Oevelopment
Board on an area north of U.S. Highway 82 indicate that the site may be
geologically sound.

TABLE 9
TERMINAL RESERVOIR (PLANS I & II)
Inflow Evaporation Yield Storage Land
Plan (Ac-Ft/Yr) (Ac-Ft/Yr) (Ac-Ft/Yr) (Ac-Ft) (Acres)
I 1,770,000* 50,000 1,720,000** 1,000,000 14,400
II 9,BOO,000* 120,000 9,6BO,000** 3,800,000 32,200

* Includes 10% loss from source to terminal storage
** Includes 10% increase for distribution losses

020
