The current struc-
ture experiences damage during floods which requires
in-river work to repair whenever they occur.

Lacation: Public Serv.ice Company's Arapahoe Power
Plant south 01 Evans.

Benefits: Removes one 01 the last two boating obstacles
on the River. Reduces Public Service's maintenance
requirements on the dam.

Resources:
Urban Drainage has $60,000 for this project.

Responsible for making this happen:
Urban Drainage & Flood Control District (Contact: Ben
U rbonas, 455-6277)
Public Service Company 01 Colorado (Contact: Randy
Rhodes, 294-8011)
Denver Wastewater Management

Next Steps: Finalize design

Time frame: 1995 (and each year alter)

Brief description and background:
Most of the trees along the river are exotic species, such as
Siberian elm, that provide little wildlile habitat and are not
part 01 the natural heritage of the region. Native
species-both trees and shrubs-will be planted. Beavers kill
many trees along the River, but can be thwarted if chicken
wire skirts are wrapped around the bases of trees or if other
similar devices are installed. Installing such protective
devices will be a good volunteer and youth activity beginning
this summer.

Location: Throughout the River corridor.

Benefits: Will replace exotic species with native species and
provide wildlife habitat.

Resources: City and County 01 Denver and participating
agencies and non-profit organizations.

Responsible for making this happen:
Denver Parks and Recreation (Contact: Neil Sperandeo,
964-2536)
Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (Contact: Ben
Urbonas, 455-6277)
Denver Urban Conservation Corps (Contact: D.
